NCC Vows to Revolutionize Nigeria’s Telecom Industry

From 5G Innovation to Consumer Satisfaction

Concisedailynews – The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to eliminating barriers that hinder the delivery of world-class telecommunications services in Nigeria.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, Maida highlighted the NCC’s role in ensuring not just accessibility but enhanced service delivery.

He noted that Nigeria boasts 132 million internet connections, contributing significantly to the global figure of five billion internet users. Maida further revealed that Nigerians spend an average of four hours and 20 minutes daily on social media far exceeding the global average a testament to the deep integration of digital interactions in everyday life.

In 2024, Nigeria’s data usage surged to an average of 336 gigabytes per second daily, reflecting a 39% year-on-year increase, underscoring the country’s data-driven lifestyle.

Dr. Maida emphasized the transformative impact of advancements in telecommunications, from 3G and 4G to the advent of 5G. “With faster speeds and lower latency, 5G opens new possibilities for smart cities, autonomous vehicles, and the Internet of Things, fueling demand for data-driven innovations,” he explained.

The NCC boss pledged to address all impediments to seamless service delivery, promising a shift in focus from basic service quality to ensuring a comprehensive Quality of Experience for telecom users at every stage of engagement.

“Our strategic vision is centered on meeting the expectations of consumers, the industry, and the government,” Maida said. “From SIM registration to usage and beyond, our goal is to consistently deliver satisfaction and world-class telecom services to all Nigerians.”
