Senate leader, 2 Govs affected as Wike revokes 568 land allocations

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocations of several prominent individuals, including Bayelsa State Governor Senator Douye Diri, Imo State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

This decision follows the expiration of an extended grace period for the affected individuals to settle their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees for plots located in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja.

According to Lere Olayinka, media aide to the FCT Minister, the rights of occupancy for 568 land allottees were revoked due to their failure to meet the payment deadline.

Other notable figures impacted include former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

In October 2024, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued a notice to 3,273 allottees, giving them two weeks to clear their outstanding payments. While 2,511 complied, 762 were granted an additional two-week grace period. By January 15, 2025, only 194 of these allottees had made their payments, leaving 568 in default.

The revocation notice, based on Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, permits the government to withdraw land rights for non-compliance with the terms of the grant. The notice also clarified that title holders who settled their payments by the deadline remain unaffected.
